Infrastructure Health and Safety Association announces a new opportunity to promote Workplace Safety in Ontario.
Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON June 3, 2010 -- At the annual meeting of the Federation of Construction and Safety Associations here today, the recently formed, Ontario-based Infrastructure Health and Safety Association ("IHSA") announced the establishment of a foundation for the promotion of safety welfare in Ontario workplaces.
Citing a mandate that stretches back 90 years with the formation of the Construction Safety Association of Ontario, Michael Delisle, President and CEO of the IHSA said: "Traditionally, the role of safety associations in Ontario has been to evaluate, train and educate with respect to safe workplace practices, with the objective of making this province the safest jurisdiction to work. Everyone deserves the right to return home from work safely. After all, a workplace injury and/or fatality can impact an entire family. It is with these concerns in mind, that we lend our voice in support of this meaningful initiative. Understanding the importance of workplace safety can never begin too early. The monies raised in this effort will, through private sponsorships, not augment the operations of our organization, but rather be awarded to the children of IHSA member firms that choose educational opportunities that maximize their industry health and safety awareness."
"In this challenging economic climate, it makes sense to look at innovative ways to advance a worthwhile objective. In our view, any mechanism that will contribute to a safer workplace, either now or in the future, certainly is worthwhile," says Delisle.
Kodiak Group Holdings Co. President, Mr. Kevin Huckle, was present to inform the assembled guests that his company would be first to align his organization with IHSA by providing a sponsorship/donation to the IHSA Foundation. "Our association with CSAO began 20 years ago with the development and testing of Kodiak Proworker Boots. We share common values and a strong commitment to workplace safety. These bursaries will ensure the further promotion of our organizations’ activities through young people." The first bursaries are expected to be awarded in early 2011.
About Infrastructure Health and Safety Association
IHSA was created on January 1, 2010, from the merger of three organizations: the Construction Safety Association of Ontario (CSAO), the Electrical & Utilities Safety Association of Ontario (E&USA), and the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO). IHSA builds on the strengths of the three founding organizations as it works more cost-effectively to prevent workplace injury, illness, and fatalities through training, consulting, research, and communication.
